2015 Lodging Tax Proposal

The City of Hoquiam Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) is accepting proposals for tourism related services to be provided during calendar year 2015 and paid for from Hoquiam’s tourism fund. By State law, the City’s lodging tax revenue may only be used to promote tourism (such as marketing events and festivals to potential tourists) and for certain capital, operating and maintenance expenses for tourism facilities owned by the City. The LTAC is only advisory in nature and will make a recommendation to the Hoquiam City Council during the City’s annual budget process.

The Lodging Tax is an excise (sales) tax authorized by State law in RCW 67.28, Public Stadium, Convention, Arts and Tourism Facilities. It is paid by people who stay overnight in a lodging establishment such as a hotel, motel, bed and breakfast facility, camp ground or RV Park.

In the City of Hoquiam, as in the other cities in Grays Harbor, except for Aberdeen (11.63%), the total sales tax on lodging in 11.5%. However, only part of the 11.5% lodging tax comes to the City of Hoquiam, with Hoquiam’s share equal to a 5% tax. Various portions of the remaining sales tax are distributed to the State, Grays Harbor County, the Grays Harbor Transit, for Criminal Justice and E-911 Communications.

Hoquiam expects to receive about $12,000 in lodging taxes in 2015. Proposal forms can be downloaded by following this link or picked up at the below address.
