Mayor Durney's Welcome

On behalf of the City Council and staff, I would like to welcome you to the new City of Hoquiam web site. Our web designers at L&B Marketing Services in Aberdeen have been burning barrels of midnight oil to put this together and we are all very pleased.

We are very proud of the men and women who work for the city and provide such crucial services such as police, fire, ambulance, water, sewer, legal, and financial services.

Additionally, our volunteer citizen boards and commissions -- like Planning, Community Services, Cemetery, and Civil Service -- will be recognized and their important work shown. Our web site will highlight all of these very bright and hard working people who make Hoquiam a very progressive and responsive city.

We are excited about this opportunity to visit with you through the internet. The City of Hoquiam is a progressive and energetic city and our goal is to provide our citizens with the best service a city can provide and our visitors with the best vacation or business trip that a city can provide.

Hoquiam is a special and unique city. Our Loggers Playday Festival has been a favorite local event for over 40 years and draws spectators and participants from all around the country. The annual Shorebird Festival is a favorite of naturalist and bird watchers from all around the country. This August we are going to once again host the "On Track Art Festival" which is rapidly gaining popularity within our cultural community.

GREAT COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR EVERYONE

The web site is all about information and making sure that information can be accessed by citizens, builders, developers, and others. By definition, a web site is never finished so be sure to check back often to see the changes.

Our website already offers, or is in the process of offering:

  • Council meeting agendas and minutes
  • Zoning and building codes
  • Utility rate information
  • Various studies
  • Resolutions and ordinances
  • Information on festivals and recreation schedules
  • historical and reference information

Thus, if you have a burning desire at 2:00 in the morning to know what our sewer rates are or a copy of our zoning ordinance, it will be right here for you.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU

One final and very important use of our web site is communication. Your suggestions and ideas are important to us. You can get immediate feedback from us. Our web site shows the personal emails of our various department heads as well as council members and myself . We are committed to responding.

If you have any thoughts on our web site or any policy issues, please do not hesitate to email me at mayor@cityofhoquiam.com. I will be back in touch.

Again, welcome to the new City of Hoquiam web site. Much like our community as a whole, it is constantly changing and improving.
